STEWART BUILDING FACADE RENOVATION
ADRIAN, MI
This historic downtown building has suffered from previous “modernization” attempts. In the fall of 2017 the metal panels covering the second and third floors were removed so that the condition of the underlying brick could be evaluated. The parapets were in very poor condition, and the third floor ceilings were too low. Black Raven Architects, working with structural engineers from Wiss Janney, Elstner Associates, developed a plan for rebuilding the parapet and raising the roof to provide higher ceilings on the third floor.
The project will be constructed in two phases, using MEDC Façade Improvement and Apartment Rehabilitation Grants. The façade grant package is in progress. is out for bids. Historic photographs have been used as the basis for new windows, cornice, and storefront designs.
